From Cultural Dance Rehearsals to “I Do”: A Bingham University Love Story

What can be called fate is when Rejoice met the love of her life at Bingham University when she started the university in 2013. Her fiancee which she is already engaged to and waiting for the scheduled date to get married to, happens to be a student of the same University. Unfortunately on 30th May in 2013 and 2016 both of them lost their father, this tragedy which happened to both of them happens to be one of the bonding scenarios between them.

I asked Rejoice if she could share her experience of how their relationship started.

It all started in Bingham University, we were both from Taraba State, so we have this Taraba State Students Association (TASSA), at the time we wanted to have an end of semester party and also inauguration of new exco’s which I happen to be among and him too, so we had list of things we want to do during the party and cultural dance was among, so that faithful evening I finished my lectures and went to the hostel to rest but then my cousin was like won’t you attend the cultural dance rehearsals, I was like I am so tired but she insisted, so I got up and we went to the hall for rehearsals, we were alone in the hall when he walked in, when I raised my head and saw him, I told my cousin I have never seen him before, he is so cute and she was like “yeah he is” and then I kept pressing my phone, after that day I kept seeing him in school and we would say hi to each other and pass, so after the end of year party we wrote exams and went for holiday, we then found each other on facebook and he was like I kept looking for a way to talk to you and here you are finally, we chatted a lot and exchanged numbers, from there we became close and later started dating

The first few years at the university were the most memorable, as an individual who graduated from the Federal University of Wukari, I can attest to the fact that I have enjoyed all the fun parts of it, I asked Rejoice about her first-year experience at the university if the experience was like my own, but her story was like this;

I went to Bingham University in 2013 after my diploma from the University of Abuja, my fiancee went to Bingham too after waiting so many years and writing NDA exams so he could be in the army but years passed and he did not get in, and finally decided to let it go and went to Bingham too if he did not make that decision and if I had continued at university of Abuja, we would never have met and be where we are right now, but also you can never say never” She said.

Is there any amazing, humorous, or surprising story you would love to share that concerns your relationship?

So there was another person that played a role while we were dating, my secondary school mummy which happens to be his elder brother’s wife, I chatted her up about him and she said he is her in-law and she was like you both will be great couples and I was like, “Yeah, he is cute and calm” she tagged me in some of his pictures and also told him about how nice I am and all not knowing we are seeing already, she rooted for us

One thing that ended up being amazing is when I came to realize that Rejoice is Mumuye by tribe and her darling husband-to-be is Ichen by tribe. According to Rejoice, tribe is not an issue when love is around, at the end what matters is what she says.

The two love birds are going to walk down the aisle on 15 June 2024 in Abuja.
